Sasara (ささら)is a regional variation of Japanese traditional dance, Shishimai. It originated 400 years ago, when the lord of Satake Clan was relocated to Akita from Ibaraki area.
In Semboku City, there are many small communities where the tradition of Sasara is still alive. Last year, we have introduced you Umezawa Sasara from Jindai Area. Some better-known Sasara are from Kakunodate Town in neighborhoods like Shiraiwa, Hirokunai, and Donokuchi Areas. There will be a festival where you can see the Kakunodate’s Sasara performances all at once.
