The 26th Annual Tazawako Marathon on September 18, 2011.

The 26th Annual Tazawako Marathon (第26回田沢湖マラソン) will be held on Sunday, September 18th, 2011.

Each year we welcome thousands of runners in this event. Last year, the event welcomed as many as 5,000 participants from in and out of Japan. The courses vary from 3km (in a pair marathon) to 42.195km (in full marathon), which is held around the beautiful scenic places in Tazawako Area.

Every year, it invites well-known guest runner. Last year was Mr. Yamada Keizo, Akita’s native and the first Japanese winner of Boston Marathon, as well as Ms. Ari Ichihashi, another internationally known Marathon runner. This year, Tazawako Marathon will invite Ms. Masako Chiba, an Ex-Olympian and a popular marathon commentator.

This is the biggest community event that we all look forward to. The locals gather along the roads and at the event site to cheer the runners. The event site is at Lake Tazawa, where you can find tents of local foods and souvenirs.

Due to the demand and popularity this year because the earthquake situation has forced many such events canceled, the number of applicants this year is fast reaching the maximum number. They are still accepting applicants at this point, but if you are considering signing up as a runner, you might want to hurry.

On the night before (Saturday, September 17th at 17:00), there will be a Welcome Party at ORAE, a popular craft beer restaurant at Lake Tazawa. It is 2,000 Yen including one drink. The party will be held in the evening, when the public bus service won’t be available; but do not worry – the shuttle bus will take you to Tazawako Kogen area where a lot of the hotels are located at.

Come and join us! It will be a great opportunity for you to meet the locals and people from different part of Japan!
