The Destination Campaign is the largest tourism campaign of Japan, which is carried out by all 6 Japan Railway Companies (Hokkaido, East Japan, Tokai, West Japan, Shikoku, and Kyushu) in corporation with the municipal governments of the designated area, and tourism businesses.

(This year the Destination Campaign has been on Aomori Prefecture.)

Akita Prefecture will host the 2013 Destination Campaign, and the Campaign will invite “Guests from all over Japan to Akita!” This will be the third time for Akita to welcome the campaign!

Due to the catastrophic earthquake disaster in eastern Japan, the tourism facilities including hotels in Akita Prefecture have been severely damaged – The official announcement of its coming location in Akita has been greatly welcomed and bighted up the entire community!

JR East Japan will introduce the new Akita Shinkansen trains in 2013. The Destination Campaign in Akita will be held from October 1 to December 31 of the same year. The Akita Prefecture will prepare for it in another 3-years-long campaign “Food, Agriculture, and Sightseeing.”

At the press conference, Mr. Kawano, Director of JR Akita Branch, has commented, “in the time of recovery, we hope to energize Akita first, so that we can contribute and support the other Tohoku and Japan. We hope this will become an opportunity to improve the quality of tourism here and host the guests as (a team of ) All Akita.”
