Tasting Evaluation at Tazawako Ski Area

Tazawako Ski Area is planning to open on the 19th of December. A few days ago, a tasting evaluation of the new menu for this coming season was held. The food service at Tazawako Ski Area has been rated as Japan’s #1, as its overall rating has been also within one of the top 5 of all Japan.

Almost 30 items on their menu were evaluated this day, including noodles of many kinds (ramen, udon, soba, yakisoba, etc), donburi (dishes served over a bed of rice), curry and rice, and so on.

B-1 Grand Prix, a contest of Japanese regional soul-foods, was held in Yokote City, Akita, in September, 2009. The contest ended up bringing over approximately 260,000 people from all over Japan for only two days. The local Yokote Yakisoba, stir-fried noodle with ground pork and cabbage served with egg and pickled radish (see the photo below), won the first prize and the synergy effect of the contest has still been still lingering on strongly. It hasn’t stopped attracting many tourist groups from elsewhere, even from overseas. A team of Yokote Yakisoba from Yokote City are here to serve you the authentic taste! Now Yokote Yakisoba has been raved even more strongly. Here is your chance to give it a try!

(Yokote Yakisoba---
Apparantly, somebody couldn't wait for a photo.. sorry for the little mess.)

(Order Yokote Yakisoba here!)

Also, there is Beimen (also known as "B" men), a new specialty of Tazawako. This a thick and flat noodle made of rice might sort of remind you of the chewy big rice noodle from Thailand. You can cook it anyway you like; but here, it is served with a simple flavorful soy-sauce dipping and garnished with some green onion. It is very simple but great in taste! It was one of the most popular dishes at the evaluation.

(Curry of colorful beans served with rice. )

(Iwashi Tendon, Sardine Tempura over rice)

(On the local news this day.. )

(The staffs discussing on the taste. More improvements are being made!)

They serve plentiful choices of dishes, prepared in both conventional and creative ways. I promise you will have a difficulty in choosing what you would like! Just 2 days before the season opening, the chefs and staffs at Tazawako Ski Area have been working even more vigorously, so they can provide you with the best quality of food and service. That is probably the secret of the popularity of Tazawako Ski Area.
