Get a Glimpse of New Firework Collection in the City of Fireworks

Omagari-no-Hanabi  (大曲の花火)is a national firework fesitval in Omagari Area, Daisen City. Although this Japan's largest firework festival is annually held in the end of August, the City offers many opoortunities to see the fireworks throughout the year. Here is one coming up this weekend:


New Fireworks Collection 2011 (Shin-Hanabi Collection) will be held on this Saturday, April 23rd at Omagari Family Ski Area in Daisen City. It is a collection, in which young firework craftsmen from all over Japan get together and show their new works. The event was to be held March 19, but it was postponed until this weekend because of the earthquake.

This year, the theme is “Tomose Kibo-no-hikari! Tsunagare Nippon!” (Light Up the light of hope! Connect Japan!). As many as 1,000 works will be performed in the sky of Spring. This year is the 20th anniversary event. All the 22 technicians from in and out of Akita Prefecture have been previously awarded.

There will be a section designated for the evacuees who have been sheltered in Akita Prefecture. A shuttle bus service will be available from a hotel near JR Omagari Station. Reservation is required. Call the organizer (NPO法人大曲花火倶楽部) at 0187-62-6887.
