Akita Shinkansen Komachi Resumed This Saturday!

Golden Week, the largest Japanese holiday week, is starting from this weekend. This is the time when people travel to visit families and friends. Also, during these weeks, the cherry blossom front is moving through Akita Prefecture. We hope to see many happy faces of families and friends reunited under the cherry blossoms! (Come to Cherry Blossoms Viewing Points in Semboku City!)

Wondering about transporation? Great News!

Japan Railway’s Akita Shinkansen Komachi will resume this Saturday!

Japan Railway has announced on April 22nd that Akita Shinkansen (“Bullet Train”) Komachi between Akita and Tokyo is scheduled to be resumed on this coming Saturday, April 29th. The reservation has just started from today April 26th. See the time table here.

Due to the 3.11 earthquakes, Akita Shinkansen Komachi between Akita and Tokyo had been suspended until March 17th. After March 18th, it resumed only between Akita and Morioka. The re-opening of the rest between Morioka and Tokyo has been much awaited!

The reconstruction of ground, railroads, and elevated tracks are to be completed by April 28th. However, the train will decelerate between Nasu-shiobara and Morioka, so that it will take an hour longer than the regular operation; the shortest will be 4 hours and 52 minutes between Tokyo and Akita Station.

Flights Are (Almost) Fully Booked

Because the train reservation did not start until today, the flights were booked fairly quickly. For example, all 7 flights from Tokyo to Akita Airport (JAL/ ANA) are fully booked between April 28th and May 1st. Other destinations like Osaka, Nagoya, and Sapporo are almost full during the week.

We are quite excited about this rapid recovery! Good job, Tohoku!
