On this Sunday, Akita Airport is turning 30 this year!
Akita Airport （秋田空港）has been serving as an important gate to the Tohoku region since 1981. Every year, the airport has an annual celebration event. This year, to commemorate the 30th anniversary, there will be an even bigger event on its birthday, June 26th!
The main attractions are a bus tour around the airport facility, a marching band performance by local kindergarteners and a chindon-ya, another marching band in a more traditional style.
There will be a talk show and an autograph session by players of Akita’s professional sports teams, Akita Northern Happinets (Basketball) and Akita Northern Bullets (Football).
For food, a mochi-tsuki (rice cake pounding), some souvenirs and food markets, and Babahera ice cream (a specialty from Akita, an icecream vender under a colorful parasol) will be available. The on-site restaurants will also offer you special dishes.
It is a FREE event and will be held on Sunday, June 26, from 9:30 to 15:00 at Akita Airport.
