Mori-no-eki (森の駅;“Forest Station”) is a souvenir shop on route 46. This is one of the few restaurants along the national route in between Tazawako and Kakunodate area.
A Noodle Shop, Choshiro at Mori-no-eki
Mori-no-eki is managed by Kadowaki-Mokuzai (門脇木材), a large lumber company nearby. The stores deals with a wood-craft center (furniture, etc.) as well as a small product/souvenir shop inside. You will see beautiful white horses there!
The restaurant Choshiro (長四郎) serves many variation of noodle and rice dishes. Their main business is a fish-farming of iwana, or Japanese chars. Here is a good place for you to try a side of Iwana-no-kanroni (simmered in sweetened soy-sauce) for 500 yen, or a combination meal with irori-cooked iwana for 1,000 yen!
Inaniwa-udon (Akita’s local specialty) is served hot and cold for only 700 yen. Simple kake-soba and kake-udon are available from 350 yen! Combination of the day (650 yen) was a tempura bowl and hot soba served with a drink. The Sansai-soba (“mountain vegetable” and buckwheat noodle) is 450 yen.
The restaurant is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (closes at 5 p.m. in winter). It is one of the cheapest noodle shops in town!
Eating a meal around the irori would make such good experience, especially for foreign visitors. I know I want to do that someday! :)
ReplyDeleteThat's so true. Thats probably why Tsurunoyu is so popular because you can have your own irori in the room. A true Japanese experience!
ReplyDeleteI missed out on staying at Tsurunoyu last year because of our last minute change on travel dates. :(
ReplyDeleteI sure hope to experience it someday though.
The opportunity won't go away :) You will experience it next time!
